Non-Uniform Days: Friday 31st March and Friday 26th May 2017

The students on our School Council decided at the beginning of the year to support local charities for 3 of our non-uniform days, using the other 3 to raise money for projects in school that the students choose. Last year, the money was spent on outdoor basketball hoops to help increase the amount of activities available to students at lunchtime and morning breaks. On the school calendar, we had earmarked the 17th March as a non-uniform day as for the past few years we have supported Comic Relief or Sport Relief.

In line with the students’ decision to support local charities however, we are changing the dates of the remaining non-uniform days.

The next one will be on the last day of term, Friday 31st March and will be used to raise funds for the Student School Council. The final non-uniform day of the year will be on Friday May 26th May and will raise funds for our local hospice, St Helena’s.

We have supported this worthy charity before, not least as we are aware that their work touches the lives of many families connected to The Gilberd School. This connection has become particularly poignant for students and staff this year as Mrs Love, one of our longest standing members of support staff, was diagnosed with a brain tumour and is currently being supported by the hospice. On the night of Saturday 27th May, Mrs Love, along with many friends and colleagues from The Gilberd, will be taking part in the St Helena Hospice Midnight Walk. If you would like to sponsor Mrs Love or read more about her story, please follow the link below to her “just giving” page.

We wish Mrs Love and all the other walkers from St Helena Hospice well and thank you once again for your continued support of the School Council’s aims to support both the school and our local community.

Kind regards,

Mr Mark Orrin
