Gilberd School girls attended a STEMettes hackerthon day at Essesx University on Tuesday 21 February.
15 girls in year 8 represented the school they interacted first with real women working in the STEM industry. Students were given and ice breaker session that required them to get to know other girls from TLA and Stanway schools. The STEMettes then split into two groups for the coding activities using the University labs. They loved the suite and ergonomic wheelie chairs demanding ”gets us these chairs please miss”. Students designed, created and presented their web App creation. “We love this, can we do more of this”. One of our group presentation won judges choice best on creativity and use of technology i.e. incorporating youtube links and more. All round an enjoyable event.
